Over half of Ethiopia’s population are children and of that nearly 5 million are orphaned. Of these vulnerable children, over 1 million are AIDS-orphans. Join a committed group of Torontonians in responding to the plight of these youngest of our global citizens.

Torontonians celebrate diversity and this cultural sensitivity is reflected in a desire to make a difference globally. Members of the Ethiopian community have been making a difference to the richness of Toronto community life for decades and building capacity in the Ethiopian community through People to People Aid Organization (Canada) Inc. (P2P).  A key initiative of P2P is a sponsorship program to establish cost-effective links to connect Canadians with orphaned children by partnering with local NGOs in Ethiopia, including Hiwot Integrated Development Association (HIDA).

Sister Tibebe Maco, the Executive Director of HIDA is the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards from organizations which include; The Hunger Project, World of Children and Family Health International. During a recent Toronto visit sponsored by CUSO she gave kudos to P2P as HIDA’s only North American partner whose Board members regularly self-fund, visits to the children and help evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

Imagine the difference an upgrade from a mud shelter to a shack, with floors that stay dry during the rainy season or a school uniform (required for all school children) makes for an orphaned child.

Truly, the essentials + education = HOPE.

While change IS in the air for Africa, tens of millions of people still lack the basic means of subsistence. You can be part of this wave of change and make a difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children by walking or running a 5K, Half or Full Marathon for P2P. We guarantee that your spirits will be lifted by creating awareness and support for P2P’s mission to ensure that these children have the basic entitlements of global citizenship.
